Retro-calcaneal Bursitis (RCB) treatment Cairns is provided by the professional team at FNQ Podiatry & Orthotics. What is Retro-calcaneal Bursitis? Bursa are small fluid filled sacs within the body and are primarily focused on cushioning and lubricating tendons as they pass over bone. The Retrocalcaneal Bursa is located between the heel bone (Calcaneus) and the Achilles tendon, and is focused on providing this cushioning for everyday activities such as walking and running. However, either through direct trauma or a combination of risk factors, the Retro-calcaneal Bursa can become inflamed/irritated, resulting in a Bursitis. Symptoms of RCB Bursitis include; redness, swelling, stiffness and posterior heel pain (especially with direct pressure or going up on toes). If this sounds like you make an appointment to come in and see one of our Cairns Podiatrists, who will conduct an assessment and if appropriate, develop a customised Retro-calcaneal Bursitis Cairns treatment plan for you.
The following factors predispose individuals to Retro-calcaneal Bursitis:
Diagnosis of RCB is generally achieved through a thorough history and clinical examination, including Cairns VALD Strength Testing. Depending on the severity/type of symptoms, you may be referred for an ultrasound or x-ray to rule out further pathology e.g. Insertional Achilles tendinopathy. Once we have established the parameters of your specific situation, and if appropriate, we will prepare an individualised Retro-calcaneal Bursitis Cairns treatment plan for you.
There are a range of Retro-calcaneal Bursitis Cairns treatment options available. These include but are not limited to the following.
The majority of patients with RCB recover well (usually within 4-6 weeks), providing they comply with the requirements of their respective Retro-calcaneal Bursitis Cairns treatment plan. Please note corticosteroid injections and surgery are rarely indicated in our Retro-calcaneal Bursitis Cairns treatment plans, but are an option for chronic and unresponsive cases.
Flat feet and lower limb biomechanics can cause lower back pain. We can help with a range of effective treatment options.
If you have knee pain, you might have Patellofemoral syndrome, which left untreated can become a chronic condition.
Active individuals often get shin splints. We can help with custom orthotics, massage and strapping.
Heel pain (Plantar Fasciitis) is the most common condition that presents at our clinics. We can help.
The average pair of feet walk approximately 200,000 km over the course of a lifetime - have you had yours checked recently?
